Anatomy and Physiology Resources
Updated 07/08/2020
Coding requires knowledge and competency in anatomy and physiology. That does not mean coders must have an encyclopedic knowledge of anatomy. However, it does mean coders must know where to find information on anatomical structures. We have provided some valuable resources below.
Visit the Image Library for preselected anatomical images, many with additional clinical coding guidance.

Foot Anatomy Animated Tutorial
Published by: e-OrthopodTV
Randale Sechrest, MD, Orthopaedic Surgeon

Website Administrator Note: Coding for the foot, like the hands, is complicated due to the number of structures in this anatomical area. Common procedures on the foot include fracture and dislocation treatment, various types of bunion repair ranging from very complex (Austin and Chevron) to very simple (Silver Procedure), single and double ostectomy, sometimes performed with bunion repair and many more. Watch this excellent video and view the differences between the bones tendons, including flexor and extensor tendons and ligaments.
