Anywhere Hospital USA
Quality and Education Department
Welcome to the Quality and Education Department!
All services provided to patients in the hospital may impact their outcomes. These outcomes are reported in the form of coded data by HIM coders. Hospital and physician performance as to how patient care was delivered and the success and/or failure of treatment is reflected after discharge on the coded data submitted.
Any adverse affect of treatment, complications and/or unexpected death negatively impacts hospital and physician quality reporting. This makes the accurate documentation and coding of severity of illness and risk of mortality as important as the optimization of any particular case. Severity and risk are part of APR DRG reimbursement but they should also be considered when coding for MS-DRG's.
Anywhere Hospital USA coders are expected to take these factors into consideration when coding all cases.
Code with severity of illness and risk of mortality in mind and you have the potential to impact the quality metrics for your facility!
