Sample Emergency Room Coding
Anywhere Hospital USA is a Level 1 trauma Center. The patient will be brought in by ambulace or helicopeter and designated as a trauma prior to arrival. A medical record and account number is set up for them prior to arrival and they are all "Patient Doe # X." The Trauma level is established prior to arrival also and may be updated by the ER physicians . Once a patient has been deemed a trauma, they generally stay a trauma although their status may be changed after arrival. The trauma arrivals are announced over the intercom prior to the patient arriving at the ER. Trauma teams are activated and are ready for them when they arrive. Trauma centers receive patients with survivable injuries and those for whom death is an almost certainty. A primary cause of trauma arrivals is motorvehicle accidents
